This is an example of a complete press release, including the covering letter we sent out. It was formulated by us from some plain facts, personally addressed to a number of editors, and achieved good results. For space purposes here, the letter header is not included, but otherwise this is more or less formatted as it was in the release...

HEADLINE: RIVAL TO ONLINE JOB BOARDS HITS THE MARKET!

NewJobDirect has just launched the first search engine specifically designed to display vacancies being advertised on company websites.  It provides a single place where jobseekers are able to conduct  targeted  searches of these vacancies, many of which might not be advertised elsewhere, and it doesn’t pick up ‘agency’ jobs, so jobseekers get directly through to employers.

Obviously, this new service means that jobsites like those above, as well as Monster and Workthing may have to contend with a smaller slice of the cake in future, and traditional recruitment agencies may find that employers cut them out of the picture altogether. Until now, they’ve depended on jobseekers not being able to find jobs without their help.

One Click Away From a Job

Search results from NewJobDirect put jobseekers one click away from the jobs that companies advertise on their own websites. The jobseeker makes the decision as to whether or not a job application is forwarded and the person who truly understands the company's requirements - the employer - makes the decision on suitability. Thus the employer keeps the whole cake, apart from the icing, perhaps, which goes to NewJobDirect.

Brainchild

NewJobDirect is the brainchild of Gary Docherty and Richard Forkan, who between them have almost 3 decades of recruiting experience. The new search engine will be promoted widely on the internet, and they are planning to hit the jobmarket fast.

Huge Impact

Best not to underestimate the importance of this. When employers stop using agencies, and agencies then don’t have the vacancies to put up on jobboards, it remains to be seen what will happen to their share values as a result.

Richard Forkan was just as enthusiastic, and he was brimming over with numbers. “Over 80% of companies use the Internet to help them recruit staff, with 72% posting vacancies to their corporate websites.  The thing is that for all but the most well known companies, posting vacancies to the corporate website can be a hit and miss affair, with 30% of companies receiving few, or no responses to their advertisements.  We are here to change all of that!”
